CISPA just passed and is going to destroy everything!

It’s time to get pissed. The U.S. law that would turn Google, Facebook, and Twitter into legally immune government spies just passed the House.
This bill affects everyone — not just U.S. citizens. Anyone with a Facebook account could now have their data shipped directly to the U.S. government. That’s why Internet users overwhelmingly oppose this bill. Over 1.5 million people signed petitions against it. But Congress didn’t listen.
Does this remind you of something? Yep, this is the exact position we were in with SOPA last year. Then the Internet rose up and we made history with the SOPA strike.
This spring, we’re going to organize the largest online privacy protest in history to make sure that CISPA goes the same route as SOPA and doesn’t become the law that breaks the 4th Amendment. Are you in?
CISPA threatens our most basic rights. Privacy is important not just for our security but for our rights to freedom of expression. The giant tech companies that stood with Internet users against SOPA are not going to help us this time (but some of the large sites like Mozilla, Imgur, and Reddit are all against CISPA and we love them).
Only a massive grassroots outcry will stop this bill. We’re starting to build the tools. But we need your help.
Share this flyer, and tell everyone you know to sign up to join the protest!

SOPA/Killswitch Bill Sneaks Back Into Congress And Are Stronger Than Ever - Get Ready For Round 2!
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D) will lead his second effort of 2012 to push Internet-regulating legislation, this time in the form of a new cybersecurity bill.
The expected bill is the latest attempt by the Democrats to broadly expand the authority of executive branch agencies over the Internet.
The details of the bill still remain in secrecy but clues available to the public suggest that the bill might be stronger than President Barack Obama’s ‘Killswitch emergency cybersecurity’ proposal, which was released in May 2011.
The Killswitch bill allows the president to ‘declare a cyber emergency’ and shut down the internet.
Reid said that he would bring the bill — expected to come out of the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, chaired by Connecticut independent Sen. Joe Lieberman — to the floor during the first Senate work period of 2012.
Just to be clear:
This bill is worse than SOPA, it will censor the internet and allow the President to shut it down much like what happened to Egypt during the Arab Spring
The Obama Administration not only supports the likes of the bill, but proposed it
The Government will have full control over the internet
The Government will have FULL CONTROL over the internet
Private-sectors, the state and the government will be granted immunity
The Government will have full control over the internet
Websites thought to be ‘infringing’ copyright laws will be seized by the government
Internet entrepreneurship will be endangered
YouTube will disappear (oh no!)
If you haven’t lost your faith in the Obama Administration, take a look at this. Obama plans to create a law that would mandate every American to have an ‘internet id’.
SOPA is not dead and neither is the Killswitch bill. As soon as I have any new information I will update this post.

Interesting.  Give it a read, it’s not quite what you might be thinking.

Chris Dodd’s statements about the blackout yesterday got me thinking.

These huge media distributes got so big making money from us. Money we paid for the entertainment they distribute. Money they in turn are trying to use to influence laws that would censor our internet and push far to harsh punishments on individual citizens.

Just as I was thinking about the irony of this, I came across a thread on reddit that said we should black out the MPAA and not go to the movies for a weekend.

A comment on the thread suggested it might be more effective take a movie that’s expected to be a blockbuster and make it bomb.

It wouldn’t be that difficult of a task, opening weekend is very important to the movie industry. They put a lot of money into marketing, advertising campaigns and the production of the movie it’s self.

Why not remind them where their money (that they are using to influence legislation) comes from.

I’ve seen a few suggestions for blacking out the new Batman move, if we could get people to stay home opening weekend it would go a long way to hitting them in the pocket book, the only thing these big media distributors care about.

Check out the thread on reddit here, and reblog if you have any suggestions on how to mobilize this… operation to kill the Batman and remind big media where their fortunes came from.

I think that’s a great idea. Someone should create a catchy image or animated GIF and circulate it through Tumblr and Twitter. People don’t like to read, unfortunately. Wish I could do it, but 1) I can’t photoshop at work; and 2) I don’t have that many followers on Tumblr and I don’t tweet.

I can put a picture together later today, I’m liking the idea of calling it “Operation: Kill the Batman”.

Once I put it together, I’ll submit it to reddit as well.

“Operation: Kill the Batman”. I approve.

Kill the Batman.

Perhaps it would be good to just arrange boycotts of movies, not theaters.  Theaters have enough problems, and make very little off of ticket sales (concession sales are their money makers, from my understanding).  My suggestion is this: go to the theater, buy something from the concession stand, and leave.  If Hollywood pays attention to such things, this would stand out as likely being a part of a protest (if such has been talked about online ahead of time) as opposed to people simply going to the theater less (which could unintentionally hurt those jobs).  Seems more efficient, to me.  Also, pay attention to what groups don’t support legislation like SOPA and PIPA (if such can be found).  Go see their movies more.  Just a thought.

IN CASE OF SOPA - BREAK GLASS.
Thanks to some Reddit uses here is a handy list of popular website’s IP addresses to easily get through the proposed SOPA laws. When your freedom is impeded, enter the IP address instead of the usual web address.
We can show that these laws are wrong and useless.
